Yesterday we celebrated the #BergerXP IndiBlogger Meet at Calcutta. Celebrated because an event of this magnitude deserves a celebration and not just participation.
Organized by the IndiBlogger team at The Oberoi Grand Hotel near Esplanade, this is their second meetup that I attended. But considering how IndiBlogger has grown in leaps and bounds in the past couple of years, I was not surprised to see such a huge number of Bloggers to turn up for the event.
The event started at around 4pm. I was a tad bit early and was warmly welcomed by Vineet Rajan. And as the evening unfolded in its unadulterated beauty, I was surprised to see so many new faces participating in the Meetup since the last time. So many new faces, so much of talent, such enthusiasm about Blogging was really never heard off in Calcutta if only IndiBlogger would not have given us the platform to showcase our art.
We began by some participants introducing their blogs along with providing tips on blogging. Then there was a little presentation from Berger Paints, who deserves another round of applause for making this happen, on their new range of products on house coloring. There were various tools on display which made coloring your home way easier than what it used to be. To demonstrate this, and also to keep up with the colorful spirit of Berger Paints, IndiBlogger organized some team activities like scraping off a board and oil painting on a theme of social reform. To my utter surprise, our team, team Blogeratti, came second in this contest. And there were prizes that we won from Berger Paints, a Microsoft Dual USB charger! There were prizes for the best photos of Calcutta and also the best tweet of the evening. And the evening concluded with a delicious and sumptuous buffet.
An explosion of blogging, culture, social causes and tons of great colors in the city of joy!

But I couldn't help notice that even as IndiBlogger emerged as the nation's largest community of Bloggers, the soul mission of IndiBlogger has not been lost in this humongous growth; to make the Indian Blogosphere a better place. What IndiBlogger is constantly trying to do is not to get us followers on our blog. Rather it is trying to help us create a tribe, as Seth Godin said. So what's the difference?
A follower usually comes and read your blog. They might turn out to be a loyal follower of your blog. But a follower cannot become anything more than that. Whereas a tribe is a group of people who will grow and will help you and your blog grow with them. And as far as I can see, this is exactly what IndiBlogger is striving to achieve. And seeing the event yesterday, I must say that they have made quite a success. So I guess its a collective effort for all of us Bloggers to thank team IndiBlogger and Berger Paints for making this even a success.
Thank you Team IndiBlogger for making the Blogosphere a better place. But we wish to see you in Calcutta more often, afterall this is not a bad place to be called a second home!
