My Favorite Author

Is this about one of those Facebook quiz games? Not really. People often ask me who is my favorite author. That's one of the easiest topic for book lovers to start off a conversation. The perfect ice-breaker.I have tried that too. But more often than not I have received the same answer, "I love many authors. Rabindranath Tagore, J K Rowling...."

That's as good as saying, "hey, you know what, I love to listen to all kind of songs." It sounds like a fake orgasm because what it actually means is that you are not actually a connoisseur of good music! No one can possibly love all "kind" of songs. You will always be faithful to one and only one genre. I love Old School Rock, and although I love listening to John Denver and Jgjit Singh, everytime someone asks me what music I like I reply with "Old School Rock."

Same goes for books! You cannot possibly love every author. You will always be faithful to one of them. So, everytime someone answers that they love many authors, I end the conversation with an awkward silence. And it gets all the more complicated when someone else asks me the same. Because I don't have any favorite author!

Yes, I don't. I have a favorite poet instead. That sounds fair? Yes, I am a voracious reader, I am. I love reading novels, biographies, poetry, short stories, but when it comes to that one favorite genre I always say that I love poetry. And my favorite poet? Its Thomas Stearns Eliot OM better known as T. S. Eliot.

Yep, that's him all right. My favorite work of his is, yes, you guessed it right, "The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock."

So, now why don't you tell me, who's you favorite author?
